Glossary » videotaping
a data capture technique sometimes used in many types of user studies, such as usability testing, focus groups, and interviews. Get permission from users before videotaping them. Video can be used for several purposes:
- to supplement your notes and minimize the need for note-taking during the user session.
- to capture detailed data for in-depth analysis of timing and step-by-step transcripts of user behavior.
- to review later with the user to clarify what happened in the test situation.
- to present usability problems to the design and development team, especially to reinforce the importance of problems that might be easier to dismiss when not witnessed.
