Glossary » ellipsis

ellipsis

an ellipsis (“…”) is used at the end of menu items to indicate that additional information is needed before the action of the menu item is carried out, usually by bringing up a dialog box. Dialog boxes that are merely confirmation (e.g. “Save changes?”) should not have an ellipsis in the corresponding menu item, only dialog boxes that let the user specify additional information.
