clipping
a file that contains a small piece of text, graphics, or other object that has been dragged onto the desktop from an application, in contrast to a standard document saved by an application. The clipping can be dragged into another document and will be automatically inserted in documents that can accept that kind of data. Clippings are part of drag-and-drop systems.
