Job description
The Information Architect is a specialist in user-centred design who will produce user experience solutions for Channel 4 New Media projects that fulfill the needs of users and help the department achieve our creative, brand and business aspirations.
The Information Architect will be responsible for completing New Media projects that adhere to the highest standards of user experience and usability, and meet our accessibility and Search Engine Optimisation guidelines.
The Information Architect will work autonomously on smaller projects and under the direction of the Senior Information Architect on larger projects when necessary. They may also have responsibility for selecting and briefing agencies and then managing their output. The Information Architect must be able to scope and plan their own work, with the support of the Senior Information Architect.
The Information Architect is also responsible for assisting other team members in their understanding of user-centred design, Accessibility and Search Engine Optimisation.
The role requires effective collaboration with the visual design team particularly, but also with multi-disciplinary teams including project managers, product managers, business analysts, editors and developers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in information design, information science, HCI, technical writing or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 4+ years experience as Information Architect/User Experience Consultant
- Organised and analytical with excellent attention to detail and able to understand and contribute to the creative process
- Experience in analysing the usability of existing sites and making recommendations for improvements
- Experience in developing user scenarios and personas
- Experience in creating sitemaps
- Experience in creating wireframes
- Experience in creating functional specifications suitable for the technical team to build from
- Experience in planning and running user research techniques such as interviews, card sorting and usability testing, and analysing the results of these to create actionable recommendations
- Commitment to and thorough understanding of accessibility requirements
- Commitment to and thorough understanding of Search Engine Optimisation
- Excellent written communication skills with an understanding of how to structure formal documentation
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Ability to prioritise and plan own work with respect to deadlines and other constraints
- A creative and lively approach to work
- Ability to work well in a team
Responsibilities
- To research and prepare designs for new media products to help the audience find and use our content
- To proactively pinpoint challenges and difficulties with existing systems and suggest possible solutions
- To re-purpose existing information and content elements, basic functions and templates as required
- To incorporate appreciation and knowledge of usability, navigation and accessibility issues into IA project work
- To offer expert advice to visual design, editorial and technical teams on design principles
