As a Usability Engineer, you will:
- Conduct user needs assessments, usability evaluations, and expert reviews of proposed web designs.
- Analyze findings, and present detailed evaluations and metrics to project managers, teams and senior management.
- Negotiate adoption of critical usability recommendations.
- Plan, design and conduct usability and heuristic evaluations of mid- to large-scale web applications across multiple platforms, for business and IT teams.
- Evaluate Vanguard web pages and recommend usability improvements.
- Document usability principles, best practices, and usability-test results; review user interface design standards documentation and provide usability feedback.
- Understand and comply with IT policies and procedures for quality and productivity, and comply with Information Security policies and procedures.
- Participate in initiatives that measure quality and productivity standards, like the Vanguard Unmatchable Excellence (VUE) program.
Position qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction, psychology, human factors/usability, or information science; graduate degree preferred.
- Five years' related business experience.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry.
- Advanced knowledge of these usability practices and concepts:
- Formal and informal usability testing
- Heuristic evaluations
- User needs assessments
- Integrating business and user work flows
- Logical information organization and navigation
- Inspections
- Web user interface design
- Group brainstorming and design sessions
- Advanced understanding of one or more IT platforms:
- Advanced knowledge of current versions of Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio
- Strong interviewing, communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team.
