Visual Designer with Interaction Design Experience

Position summary

Help solve business critical interaction challenges for one of the largest e-commerce companies.

Our client has a Maternity leave starting Mid-May. This is a 3 month contract on-site in the South Bay.

You will work with cross functional teams, partnering with front-end engineers to take advantage of opportunities in the ecommerce space and address customer pain points with our existing user experience. Finally, your designs should leverage or extend our site-wide design patterns and should be vetted at our team’s regularly held design reviews.

Responsibilities:

  • Create high-fidelity mockups w/behaviors for new user interfaces and interactions on the site. A product manager incorporates these mockups into the PRD (for PD & QA)
  • Create lo-fidelity prototypes illustrating interaction patterns for usability studies, front-end engineering, or internal discussion.
  • Provide feedback to PD and QA throughout the development process to ensure high-quality delivery of your designs (filing bugs as needed).

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Clear verbal communicator with the ability to effectively present your work to both design and non-design audiences (e.g. business, technology teams).
  • Proficient at solving business problems by facilitating a user-centric design process.
  • Solid grasp of web design principals and a good understanding of front-end web technologies (e.g. XHTML, CSS, JavaScript/AJAX, Flash)
  • Adept at using Adobe Fireworks/Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Flash/Flex CS4
  • Sketching and visual thinking skills a big plus.
  • Strong portfolio featuring design samples (preferably consumer web)
  • BS/BA in Design, HCI, Cog Science or related field. Masters preferred.
