Usability Glossary: role-playing walkthrough

a method for evaluating a user interface, particularly one where multiple people may be interacting during its use, such as customer service applications (cash registers, telemarketing) and groupware. Each person in the evaluation team acts the part of a user or other person involved in a dialog with the user, and they step through primary tasks for which the user interface is intended. As with other walkthrough techniques, the goal is to identify difficulties with the tasks and ways to improve the interface, and the evaluation team ideally consists of a variety of stakeholders in the design (designers, programmers, users, etc).
